License Requirements: Track Your CE by State & License
Overview
Keeping up with CE requirements can be stressful—especially if you hold multiple professional licenses across different states, each with its own rules.
The License Requirements feature is designed to help you stay organized, confident, and compliant by letting you track CE requirements by license—all in one place.
Instead of juggling spreadsheets, sticky notes, and “Wait… how many credits did I still need for that requirement?” moments, VETgirl gives you a centralized way to:
✅ Set up CE requirements for each license you hold
✅ Track your progress toward renewal goals in real time
✅ Stay ahead of deadlines without the last-minute panic
✅ Keep your CE organized in case you’re ever audited
This feature is available on both:
-
the VETgirl website, and
-
the VETgirl vital™ mobile app

Why Use VETgirl to track your CE?
Most CE platforms stop at issuing certificates.
The License Requirements feature goes further: it allows you to organize your CE around the real-world complexity of licensure—including state-specific rules, discipline minimums, and special format requirements.
This is especially helpful when you:
-
renew licenses in multiple states
-
have discipline-based credit minimums
-
need to document specific CE types (ex: law, in-person only, etc.)
-
want your “audit-proof” CE tracking to be easier
In short: it can save you hours, reduce mistakes, and keep you from a renewal-season headache.
CE Requirement Setup Options
You can choose one setup option—or combine multiple options—depending on the rules for your licensing board.
Once you set up a license, those requirements can be:
-
reused for future renewal cycles, and/or
-
adjusted at any time if requirements change
Requirement Types
1) Total Credits
Use this option to define the total CE hours required per renewal cycle for a license.
Example:
-
30 total CE hours required
This is the simplest way to track a license when only a total number of credits is required.
2) Credits by Discipline
Use this option to track CE requirements in specific subject areas, like Cardiology or Dentistry.
This is helpful when a licensing board requires:
-
a minimum number of hours in certain disciplines, or
-
specific CE category minimums
Important Note: The VETgirl Library's disciplines may differ from those of your licensing board, so you should always double check that the VETgirl CE hours applied automatically to this requirement meet your board's specific criteria.
Don't see the exact discipline you need? Create a Custom Requirement instead.
3) Custom Requirements
Custom Requirements allow you to track CE rules that don’t fit neatly into common disciplines or categories.
Examples:
-
Local practice laws
-
In-person–only CE
-
One-time requirements
This option is ideal if your licensing board has requirements that are more specific or more nuanced.
For each requirement, you'll also be able to specify:
-
Start and expiration dates
- Max Online hours
- Max Non-Medical hours
- Max Self-Study hours
- Carry-over hours (applicable to Total Credits Requirements only)
- Plus, any relevant notes to help yourself stay on track
Managing Multiple Licenses
If you hold more than one professional license, you can set up separate requirements for each one.
With multiple licenses:
-
Each license can have its own unique rules
-
Requirements can be copied, reused, or modified across licenses
-
Progress is tracked independently per license and renewal cycle
✨ Result: You can stay compliant across several states without duplicating effort—and without trying to mentally track different rules at the same time.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are CE requirements automatically set for my state?
No. VETgirl cannot interpret the CE requirements set out by your licensing board. CE requirements must be entered and customized by you based on your licensing board’s guidelines.
Can I change requirements after setting them up?
Yes. You can adjust requirements at any time and reuse or modify them for future renewal cycles.
Does this replace official license tracking?
No. This tool is designed to help you stay organized, but you will still need to report your CE as required by your licensing board.
Can I print a report of my completed License Requirements?
Absolutely! Simple click Export Log from your License page and then select the Year(s) and Requirement(s) for which you'd like to export a spreadsheet of associated content with complete RACE information. The report will automatically be delivered to your email once it has finished processing so you can get back to learning!
